Mantonavo - Evo Spa - San Francisco
The owner of Evo Spa wanted the interior of her
two curved, domed rooms to be peaceful; evoking warmth and healing and
to complement the exterior mosaic and gold roof. I suggested stucco
mantovano, a plaster finish developed by 14th century italian monks.
It's a meditative process involving small trowels and multitudes of
circular motions. The door is accented in a lime-wash of the same
palette.
Aquarello - Recording Studio - New York
Headroom Recording Studios requested a blast of vibrant color,
to greet their clients upon arrival at their new Park Ave location. A
six color palette of stucco aquarello was applied in layers, wet on wet,
to achieve this effect. Turner paintings and stormy skies were the
inspiration for the design. This is a quartz based plaster applied with
block brushes and trowels.
Veneziano - Naples Waterfront - Los Angeles
Traditional stucco veneziano was chosen for these
accent walls. The unique depth comes from a 4 pigment formula.
The high sheen is achieved through a self burnishing process, where the
stainless steel trowel picks up the marble dust in the plaster.
Mantonavo - Park Avenue - New York
The rich texture and old world feel of this venetian
plaster finish was created within the framework of the lush decor. This
plaster is composed of a pure and long slaked lime from northern italy.
Layers of gold plaster cover layers of red, to create a unique, organic
finish.
Aquarello - Private Residence - New York
High ceilings and stairwells are well suited to venetian plaster
applications. The clients in this case wanted a venetian plaster finish
that would work well throughout the house. A finish with richness and
depth, which wouldn't detract from the gallery or compete with the
millwork. Aquarello provided the perfect balance.
Calcenova - Private Residence - San Francisco
Calcenova is an unmodified, unfiltered traditional lime plaster. It can be
burnished to a high sheen, or applied matt to evoke a sense of history.
Park Avenue - New York
'Relaxing in an oasis of calm' was the artistic direction for this room.
Collaborating with Indian furniture designers, temples,
tents and caves were the source of inspiration.
Lé Lé - Tigerroom Lounge - Copenhagen
Lé Lé restaurant owners, the Le Hoang family, have a history steeped in
the tradition of french colonial Vietnam. Baroque ceilings and the sensuality of
the renaissance were keywords in the design process, while the intention was to
create an unpolished, sensual environment. With this project I combined my background
in fine art painting with interior design to create alternative and versatile wall
coverings. Taking a trowel of plaster and a cup of pigment, the aim was raw, fresh,
fresco style murals. The ceiling is very deconstructed, because you're not putting
on the top layer. The method for the walls consisted of gradually building up layers
of marble dust and lime based plaster which is infused with abstract patterns and
textures and burnished by hand with steel trowels. Unlike a paint finish which keeps
the moisture in, these walls breathe so they will change over time and continually
mottle and patina themselves.
Wing Lung Bank Ltd. - California
Designed by Olga Reilly and Neil Seth Levine, the curved facade of
Wing Lung Bank Ltd's new California branch features a glass tile mural
exterior and Venetian plaster interior, set in an abstract interpretation
designed to reflect the nearby San Gabriel mountains.
The Blue Witch Childrens Theatre - Copenhagen
The Blue Witch (Den Blå Heks) in Copenhagen has performed theatre
with children in hospitals and urban centres for the past 20 years.
The red dragon is the latest addition to the troupe.
